Canada is so f**ked.
There, I said it. Well it’s been fucked for a while because of this Liberal govt but it’s especially fucked now with Trump hating on us like a school kid bully taking it out on the entire school just because of who the principal is.. which in this case Mark Carney dare I say it is a whole world better than Trudeau but still ..
And whether people like hearing it or not, this didn’t happen overnight. It happened because Canadians kept voting the same people back into power. Four times ffs!!!
Four.
Times.
The reality is that federal elections are largely decided in Central Canada. Ontario and Quebec hold enough seats that they effectively determine who forms government. The rest of the country can vote differently, but unless Ontario and Quebec change direction, the outcome is often already written.
So if you’re wondering why Canada finds itself in another trade war with the United States, why businesses are nervous, why investment has fled, and why our economy continues to lose competitiveness, maybe it’s time to stop pretending this all came out of nowhere.
Now the United States is escalating again.
According to reports, President Donald Trump has announced new 50% tariffs on a broad range of Canadian exports in response to ongoing trade disputes involving automobiles, dairy, alcohol and Canada’s previous retaliatory measures. Beginning August 19, the tariffs are expected to affect billions of dollars in Canadian exports, extending well beyond the sectors originally in dispute.
That means Canadian manufacturers, exporters, workers and consumers could all feel the impact.
Ironically, Canada’s oil and gas sector—the industry that has carried Canada’s economy for decades—isn’t the primary target here.
Instead, many of the industries concentrated in Central Canada are taking the hit.
The same regions that have consistently supported the governments whose policies have contributed to deteriorating Canada-U.S. relations now find themselves directly in the crosshairs.
Actions have consequences.
Trade relationships matter.
Competitiveness matters.
Investor confidence matters.
For years, governments have layered on regulations, increased costs, discouraged investment and allowed Canada’s competitive advantage to erode while assuming our largest trading partner would simply continue doing business as usual.
International politics doesn’t work that way.
Whether you support Donald Trump or not is almost beside the point.
The point is this:
When Canada’s largest trading partner believes the relationship has broken down, Canadians pay the price.
Businesses pay the price.
Workers pay the price.
Families pay the price.
Meanwhile, politicians continue collecting their paycheques.
Canada has extraordinary natural resources, talented workers, world-class entrepreneurs and enormous potential.
But potential means nothing without leadership capable of protecting Canada’s economic interests.
This isn’t about left versus right anymore.
It’s about whether Canada can remain competitive in a world where economic strength—not political slogans—determines prosperity.
Canadians deserve an honest conversation about how we got here.
Because pretending everything is fine hasn’t been working.
Not even close.
