Both articles paint a sanitized, PR-friendly picture of his exit.
Neither touches the real story — the pressure building inside CPS and the sequence of events that directly preceded his departure.

🚨 THE ROAD TO JULY 17, 2018 – How I Ended Up Filing a Complaint Against Former Chief Roger Chaffin — And Why I Believe It Triggered His Departure
By summer 2018, I was no longer dealing with isolated mistakes or bureaucratic confusion. I was uncovering a pattern:
- A criminal complaint I filed with CPS in 2014 was ignored.
- A second CPS involvement in 2018 repeated the same failures.
- FOI documents contradicted CPS’s public positions.
- Multiple emails to the Calgary Police Commission mysteriously vanished.
- Individuals who contacted CPS in 2015 appeared to be imposters, derailing the investigation.
- CPS internal notes included fabricated statements, including defamatory mental-health smears often weaponized against whistleblowers.
And both CPS and the Alberta Privacy Commission played roles—through obstruction, delays, and incomplete disclosures—in suppressing records that would have exonerated me and revealed who actually committed the fraud.
It was this background that led me, on July 6, 2018, to send the email that changed everything:
“I was wondering if you could advise how I file a complaint against the Chief of Police Roger Chaffin?”
That email was the match.
🔥 Why My Complaint Threatened Chaffin’s Position
My position by July 2018 was simple:
1️⃣ CPS failed to investigate my 2014 complaint—completely.
No notes. No actions. No inquiry.
FOI records proved this.
2️⃣ In 2015, CPS accepted testimony from individuals who I believe were not who they claimed to be.
Their statements were:
- factually impossible
- contradicted by documents
- defamatory
- crafted to portray me as unstable
3️⃣ In 2018, CPS repeated the pattern.
A second investigation disappeared into the same void the first one did.
4️⃣ CPS + Alberta Privacy Commission together created a wall of suppression.
FOIs were delayed, redacted, obstructed, or “lost.”
Emails “failed to reach” the Commission Chair again…and again…and again.
5️⃣ When I escalated to provincial Ministers, the responses confirmed that my concerns were justified.
This was not a mistake.
It was a cover-up — and a coordinated one.
⚠️ THE TURNING POINT — JULY 6, 2018
Everything shifted on July 6, 2018, at 8:26 AM, when I sent the email that cracked the entire system open.
For the first time, I asked the Calgary Police Commission directly:
“How do I file a complaint against the Chief of Police Roger Chaffin?”
And I followed it with a second question that hit even harder:
“Can you please confirm whether the Police Act prevents investigations into police who have resigned?”
This was not a routine inquiry.
This was a direct challenge to CPS leadership, CPS processes, CPS Access & Privacy, and every layer of obstruction that had shielded the botched 2014 and 2018 investigations.
In that single email, I laid out the contradiction:
“Investigations can take place two years after I resigned… so why would a Chief of Police be exempt?”
That question—simple, factual, and unavoidably logical—was a threat to the entire cover-up.
And the response I received days earlier, on June 28, 2018, from the Public Complaints Director only underscored how deeply the system was already buckling:
“I cannot speak to why Chair Thiessen did not receive your emails… your matter is in process and I will be monitoring it.”
Multiple emails to the Commission Chair had mysteriously never arrived.
The FOI system was collapsing under its own contradictions.
Evidence had been buried.
And now I was asking how to file a misconduct complaint against the Chief himself.
That email was the breaking point.

💥 Eleven Days Later — Chaffin “Retires”
July 17, 2018
Not months later.
Not after a transition period.
Not after an external review.
Eleven days.
And the media framed it as a “planned” retirement.
Nothing about the internal pressures.
Nothing about complaints.
Nothing about investigations that weren’t investigated.
But the timing speaks for itself:
➡️ July 6: I request instructions for filing a misconduct complaint against Chaffin.
➡️ July 17: Chaffin announces he’s stepping down.
This was not a voluntary exit.
This was a controlled removal — a quiet firing.
🔍 Why I Believe Chaffin Was Removed, Not Retired
Based on documents, FOIs, and the timeline:
✔ The 2014 investigation was never conducted.
✔ The 2015 CPS “witnesses” lacked credibility and may have been imposters.
✔ CPS misrepresented evidence in internal notes.
✔ CPS accepted defamatory allegations against me that were disproven years later by my professional associations.
✔ My 2018 FOI requests uncovered contradictions CPS could not explain.
✔ Emails to the Commission Chair repeatedly disappeared.
✔ The moment I targeted Chaffin directly, he was gone.
This wasn’t luck.
This wasn’t coincidence.
This wasn’t administrative timing.
This was the collapse point of a cover-up.

When the Calgary Police Service refused to investigate the real perpetrators in 2014, and then again in 2018, the result wasn’t just investigative failure. It was a reversal of reality. The fraud I reported — the fraud I had evidence for — was quietly, deliberately projected onto me.
What began as a straightforward criminal complaint turned into years of institutional retaliation, reputational destruction, and coordinated character assassination. And it happened for one reason:
The truth was dangerous to the wrong people.
Here’s what the public never gets told:
✔ My professional associations in Alberta and BC ultimately used CPS’s failures as ammunition to destroy my career and my family.
Instead of protecting a whistleblower, they weaponized misinformation generated through botched police work. They did the opposite of what their governing Acts legally require them to do for a paying member.
They did not protect.
They participated.
✔ None of the institutions tasked with protecting citizens — RCMP, CPS, Alberta agencies, or the regulatory bodies I paid dues into — did their job.
Each one, in its own way, failed spectacularly:
- The RCMP refused to intervene.
- The Calgary Police suppressed the original evidence.
- My professional associations exploited CPS’s failures to justify sanctions and proceedings that were later proven baseless.
- The Alberta Privacy Commissioner obstructed access to the very documents that would have cleared everything up.
Not one of these institutions followed their mandates.
Not one of them upheld their statutory obligations.
Not one of them defended my rights.
✔ Instead, they allowed the real perpetrators to walk free — and allowed the narrative to be rewritten so that I became the villain of a crime I attempted to expose.
This wasn’t accidental.
This wasn’t incompetence.
This was institutional self-protection at all costs.

Every piece of damage that followed — the regulatory attacks, the wrongful allegations, the FOI stonewalling, the attempts to discredit me, and the years of reputational and financial destruction — can be traced directly back to two failed CPS investigations.

Both happened under the leadership of Chief Roger Chaffin.
